7 TSC Challenge Players Participating in Developmental Camps this Weekend
TSC Challenge has 6 players attending the adidas ESP Camp and one player attending the U15/U16 ODP Development Camp. Both Camps are being held in Pomona California from February 20-25. Addie Eggleston, Nicole Duarte, Rebecca Twinning, Kelsey Missimer, Gabrielle Lang, and Meghan Gibbons will attend the adidas ESP Camp. Shannon McLain will attend the ODP Developmental Camp. Both offer great opportunities for these players to improve as players and gain exposure to great coaching and players from around the country. All of these players are sophomores and play for either TSC Challenge 91 or TSC Challenge 92.
ESP stands for Elite Soccer Program. 96 girls from around the country have been invited. It is a program that adidas started to give young girls and boys the opportunity to have a developmental camp with top coaches and players from around the country. For more information on adidas ESP please go to this link http://www.adidas-esp.com/Home/news2007/adidas_esp_2008_GIRLS.pdf.
The ODP Developmental Camp was started a few years ago in an effort to bring ODP players in from around the country to a camp that would provide a training environment as well that was different than the other ODP environments that the kids experience in the selection process. For more information on the ODP Developmental Camp please go to the USYSA link http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/news/story.asp?story_id=3264.
Congrats to the girls for being selected and good luck to them this weekend.

TSC Challenge Blitz 92 Take Region 3 Presidents Cup!
TSC Challenge Blitz 92 (photo): The temperature was hot and so was
TSC Challenge Blitz 92 as they went to Tampa, FL to represent STYSA
in the U-15 Region 3 Presidents Cup tournament and came home as Champions.
In bracket play the TSC Challenge Blitz 92 outscored teams from GA,
AL and OK 9-0 to advance to the semifinal match against the North Texas
DFW Tornadoes 92. In the home stadium of the University of South
Florida the two teams fought hard for a shot at the championship. After
a spirited half time talk the team came on strong and held a 1-0 lead
into the final minute of regulation, but conceded a goal as time
ran down that sent the match to a shootout. Rather than hang their
head at the misfortune the 11 ladies on the field stepped up and secured
the victory as the 9th Tornado shooter missed and the TSC Challenge
Blitz 92 moved on to the final game to face a 3 time state champ
from Tennessee. For the second time of the weekend a TSC Challenge
Blitz 92 striker was lost to an ankle injury and they were down to
two subs for most of the game. Tennessee got on the board first and
as the game wore on it looked as if their strong back line would not
allow a goal. However, as they had done before in an elimination game
when needing a goal to survive, the Challenge team turned on the pressure
and the equalizer came on a breakaway foot race into the box resulting
with a desperation shot past the Tennessee Keeper that carried
them to overtime. In the first overtime the TSC Challenge showed to
be the stronger team and tallied the game winner about 5 minutes in.
Their defense was superb as Tennessee brought 11 players into the
attack as time ran down in the second overtime of the 2-1 win.
These proud TSC Challenge players were not going to be denied the trophy
that they set as their goal after winning the STYSA title. In cup
play this spring the team totaled a 5-1-0 record and in the 3 rounds
of playoffs went a perfect 9-0-0 only allowing 6 goals in those
15 games. The offense scored an astounding 46 goals throughout cup
play, half of them coming in the playoffs. It is truly a great accomplishment
for a group that has pulled for each other throughout the season
and forged a close bond as all great teams do. Congratulations to players,
coaches, and parents. The kids had a great run this spring.
TSC Challenge Players represent Region III ODP on International Trips.
TSC Challenge 89 player, Niki Arlitt, will travel to Germany and Italy with the Region III ODP 89 team. The team is taking a 10 day trip and will play 3 games. The head coach of the team is Patrick Baker, University of Georgia head coach, and the assistant coach is Pat O’Toole, TSC Challenge Director of Training.
Lyndsey Gnatzig, Rebecca Twinning, Addie Eggleston, and Nicole Duarte will play with the Region III ODP team in Costa Rica. The Region has selected a combined group of 91 and 92 ODP players to play in Costa Rica. Lyndsey, Addie, and Nicole all play for TSC Challenge 91, and Rebecca plays for TSC Challenge 92. The team will get a chance to train and play in Costa Rica.
International trips provide the players the opportunity to gain International playing experience that is valuable to the success of our National Team programs. Players are exposed to different styles of play, and a different environment to the one they face on a weekly bases. Both trips will provide an opportunity for the players to experience a different culture and learn about the history of the countries they are traveling in.

Challenge Blitz 92 and Blitz 95 win Austin Labor Day Cup Gold flights
TSC Challenge would like to congratulate TSC Challenge Blitz 92 (photo) and TSC Challenge Blitz 95 (photo) for winning the Austin Labor Day Cup Gold Flight.
TSC Challenge Blitz 92 won two games in their group and lost one to Lonestars 92 Red WL. They advanced to the semifinal were they faced Wave 92 and won 3-0. They played Lonestars 92 Red WL again in the final winning 2-0 to win the tournament. The girls played an exciting attacking style of play in the tournament and in the semifinal and final the girls seemed to get stronger and stronger. No doubt due to the hard preseason work done on the field and at Texas Sports Medicine Center.
TSC Challenge Blitz 95 won the tournament going undefeated and did not give up a single goal. The team won two games in group play and tied one. They beat Wildfire 95 Blue in the semifinal 1-0, and Lonestars 95 White in the final 1-0. The girls scored 5 goals for the weekend, but the real story was the way the team defended as a team.
Well done to both teams for an outstanding weekend!!

TSC Challenge Preseason Camp in Full Swing
The first week of preseason camp is coming to an end. The girls have had fun, worked hard, and learned a lot. Each summer TSC Challenge has a two week preseason camp. For two weeks the kids train once a day on the field. During one of those weeks the kids will also do a second practice a day at Texas Sports Medicine Center (TSMC). The practices at TSMC help the players improve their speed, agility, and overall fitness. The camp is one of the valuable tools that the club uses to help develop its players and get them ready for the new season.
Besides our normal staff working with our players, we bring in coaches to help train our players. This year we have the following coaches working with our players:
- Chase Wooten, Centenary University
- Matt Hawkey, University of Miami
- Amanda Cromwell, Central Florida University
- Lee Cowley, England

3 TSC Challenge Players go to U14 National Camp
Addie Eggleston, Nicole Duarte, and Rebecca Twining were selected from Region III by USSF Staff Coach, Dave Rubinson, to go to the U14 National Camp this week in California.
Each year the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has a National Camp for the U14 age group. Players are selected in each Region by the National Staff Coach in their Region. The National Staff Coaches select the players by scouting club tournaments, games, club training sessions, and Region ODP camp. Players do not play as a Region Team at camp. They are split up into teams with players from all four regions, and they train and play with that group for the week. The National Staff work with the players in both training sessions and games. The goal is to expose the players to the National Team environment.
TSC Challenge is very proud of Addy, Nicole, and Rebecca. These three outstanding players are representing TSC Challenge, South Texas, and their country at the camp.
